SUFFOLK COUNTY COURT (SUPERIOR CRIMINAL COURT):
Court Assistant & Assistant Court Analyst – Grade 16

Primarily assigned to the Criminal Department, I held numerous responsibilities which included the following:

  • ERPO Clerk – Assisting various police agencies in the filing and processing of Extreme Risk Protective Orders. Developed the processing system in local court when the new law was enacted.
  • Acted as liaison between court reporters and the NY State Division of Parole for the submission and reporting of state imprisoned cases requiring sentence minutes. This included taking part in a pilot program to move from a paper system to electronic submission, which was later implemented as a permanent program.
  • Assisted with the breakdown and distribution of daily court calendars. Each court part had a data entry clerk and a calendar clerk. I was a calendar clerk for up to five judges/parts and as such was responsible for preparing and distributing uniform sentence commitments and all other pertinent documentation.
  • As the CRD (Certificate of Relief from Civil Disabilities) Clerk, I acted as liaison between applicants and the Suffolk County Probation Department to facilitate the application process and ultimately issue certificates or denial orders, and distribute to all necessary parties including the NY State Division of Criminal Justice.
  • Worked in the courtroom once every term assisting with grand jury selection having aided in the entire process, including speaking to 350 people.
  • Assisted when necessary with coverage in the Chief Clerk’s office, Special Term office, Public Window (Cashier) and became the unofficial computer help-desk for numerous co-workers.
  • Employed at County Court (Superior Criminal), Family Court, Surrogate’s Court, and District Court (Lower Criminal Court).
  • Most recently assigned to the Criminal Department and responsible for multiple facets of office operation.
SUFFOLK COUNTY FAMILY COURT:
Court Assistant – Grade 16
Senior Office Assistant – Grade 12
  • Courtroom Clerk for Support Magistrate(s) in parts handling paternity, child support, child custody and visitation, and emergency (domestic) orders of protection.
  • Clerk for three Support Magistrates (formerly titled Hearing Examiners) whereby I executed proper documentation determined by the outcome of cases.
  • Intake and processing of new petitions for support as well as petitions for modification for support.
  • In a previous role of the same title, I was involved in the launch of the court system’s new database computer system, which although outdated technology, is still in use today.
SUFFOLK COUNTY SURROGATE’S COURT:
Senior Office Typist – Grade 8
  • Working in the Probate Department, I assisted the public and attorneys with the filing of Last Wills and Testament, which were housed in a safe within our department.
  • Was one of a few who received offsite computer training and a first to be assigned a personal computer to facilitate office workload.
  • Typed Letters of Testamentary and Letters of Administration (non-willed cases).
SUFFOLK COUNTY DISTRICT COURT (LOWER CRIMINAL COURT):
Data Entry Clerk – Grade 7
  • Responsible solely for the data entry of new summonses received the Suffolk County Police Department.
SUFFOLK COUNTY SURROGATE’S COURT:
Office Typist – Grade 4
  • In charge of running the file rooms, accepting requests for files from the public, attorneys, and title search clerks, obtaining and returning the requested files.
  • Assisted with the microfilming of court records and documents.
